I don't keep too many paintings, but this one has fond memories for me. The photo for this painting was taken on my grandson's first day at the zoo when he was 3 months old. Even though Will doesn't remember the day, his mom and I had a great time taking him. This little oasis is one of the many beautiful areas in and around the zoo's exhibits. I bet I have 50 different pictures of this one spot, and each would make a beautiful painting. Now that Will is almost three, he loves to go to the zoo, but I spend more time chasing him than looking through a lens.

This is a painting done on location behind the Dixon Gallery with my plen air art group. The light that day was incredible filtering through the trees and highlighting this particular statue. Although we all painting the same scene, it was amazing how different each one turned out. This painting is in a private collection.

This painting was a duck camp in Mississippi. At the time calling the painting "duck camp" didn't appeal to me, so I took my artistic liberties and added the mountains in the distance.

A group of us paint plen air around the Memphis area, and there's nothing better than being able to paint on location. This painting was done in the fall at Shelby Farms when their sunflowers are in full bloom. Acres of huge sunflowers mixed with tall corn stalks made this an interesting combination of color and texture. As a result, I felt the need to paint this with a palette knife rather than a brush. The Child Advocacy chose this painting for one of it's many fund raisers.
