This was a commission piece done for Susan and John Haubold in Jackson, Tennessee. Of all the commission’s I’ve done, this one was one of the hardest. Rusty was only 4 years old when he accidentally strangled himself with his link collar. I must have painted Rusty 3 or 4 times before I felt I finally captured him. When Susan saw his portrait for the first time, we all cried because, like all our pets, they really are our babies.
